How long have you been in business?
Cape Diamond Exchange was established in 1991 by the legendary, trusted and beloved Mr. Poldy, who has been practicing his diamond and jewelry expertise for over 60 years and is considered an industry authority. His daughter Aviva enters now into the second generation of a family owned business. Aviva is the director of this gem, incorporated a company in 2015 Called Tantino Trading (Pty) Ltd, T/A Cape Diamond Exchange. Cape Diamond Exchange online store launched in April 2018 as part of our physical store.

Do you also have a physical store front?
Please visit us in Cape Town, 73 St. Georges Mall corner Shortmarket St. we are located in the heart of Cape Town, a short step from the cosmopolitan bustle on the cobbles of the historical Green Market Square. At this point the physical store is offering a much bigger selection of items then the online store has. In addition to having more items, we also have a selection of unset Gemstones, Tanzanites and Diamonds.
Do you have custom-make jewelry?
When coming into the store you can also custom make. We are always delighted to work with you to make a dream come true piece. We can create it from a single image – just for you! Whatever your preference or budget, anything is possible. All our items are handmade, expertly crafted in Cape Town. We can use any material 9kt, 14kt, 18kt, white, yellow or rose Gold, Palladium or Platinum. We are generally able to create your item in just a few days, although timeframes can be slightly longer depending on the complexity of the piece, and the availability of the jeweler. But if you are not located anywhere close to Cape Town we can email back and forth and send pictures as needed for your follow and approvals along the day.
What are operating hours?
We are open 6 days a week. Our opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm
- Saturday 9am - 12pm
We are also available to open after regular business hours by appointments only.
Do you supply an evaluation certificate?
Yes. Every piece of jewelry is supplied with a valuation for insurance purposes.
We recommend that you contact an independent insurer. Report purchased items of value to your homeowners' or renters' insurance carrier.
Cape Diamond Exchange gives you the Evaluation certificate needed for insurance purposes.
Helpful hint: Compare rates and coverage before choosing a provider. In order to compare apples to apples ask each company the same questions. Ask them about all possible scenarios. Like: "What happens if all my valuable jewelry gets lost or stolen?" or "What happens if my wedding ring or diamond goes missing?").
Knowing your valuable and treasured jewelry is safely insured will give you peace of mind – and satisfaction in knowing you're protected.
What kind of payments do you accept?
- Pay your way – all major debit and credit cards are accepted, bank Transfers and PayPal.
- PayPal accepts all the major debit and credit cards including VISA, Master Card, American Express.
- A dedicated Account Manager can assist you every step of the way, regardless of payment option or order value.
- Customers wishing to pay by Bank Transfer should Contact us on +27 21 422 2350 or email us firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm the product you’d like to purchase and total sale price, and provide other essential information like billing address, shipping address, and item details (you’ll be guided each step of the way).
Deposit the funds within our account, assigning an identifying code to the transaction that will be provided by our administration.
Notify us once the deposit has been made and we will keep an eye out for it and notify you once it has been received.
Customers paying by Bank Transfer assume responsibility for all charges and costs that may be incurred but receive 1.5% discount. The product will be released only on full receipt of the selling price.
We will never pass, transfer nor sell any of your information to any third-party companies. Also, we keep your confidentiality. We don’t have any of your card details as all the transactions are done through a highly secure online platform.
Please note: All the prices on the website are including VAT at 15%. All the prices you see are final. Vat, packaging and gift options are all included in the price. However, Shipping and Insurance are not included. But you will see all the charges in the process of checking out. Unfortunately Shipping and insurance vary from item to item depending on their value and cannot be calculated beforehand. In addition to that – when shipping internationally, Import taxes might be charged in the country that you live in, and this will have to be checked by you.
Do you offer a warranty on the jewelry I purchase?
Yes. In staying true to our high standards of customer satisfaction, we offer a Lifetime Warranty to protect against manufacturer defects in craftsmanship. The warranty does not include normal wear and tear, or damages incurred due to trauma, negligence, lack of regular maintenance, loss, or theft. Please check the claws and prongs periodically to ensure the security of the diamond in the setting – as these can become loose.
How do I best care and maintain my new jewelry purchase?
We recommend that you have your ring cleaned, polished, and have the prongs inspected once a year. These services are complimentary.
Invoice, proof of purchase or your evaluation certificate must accompany the request each time.
We only ask that you cover the shipping and insurance to safely transport the ring to our facility and Cape Diamond Exchange will cover the shipment back to your safety.
Unfortunately we cannot offer this service to our international customers due to import taxes that are being charged when items are coming into South Africa.
Can I return an item if I don’t like it?
Yes, Only items that have been purchased online. Items that have been purchased online from our online store can be returned.
Items that were purchased in our store cannot be returned. The difference is of course due to fact that the item was viewed physically and were fitted on and when buying online one can always assume that it was not as envisioned.
Please note that returned items must be in their original, unworn condition, carrying our tag and accompanied by all original documentation or certificates. Due to their personalized nature, the following orders are nonreturnable: items that have been modified, engraved, or resized; items that have previously been exchanged; and custom designed jewelry.
We also limit some of our diamond rings, due to the risk of possibly compromising the diamond.
